The server does give empty files while downloading.
Steps to get there:
1. Login to the system
2. Upload a file by the 'U' option
3. List the file to see there is a file
4. Try to download the file with the 'D' option
5. Close the server and check your downloaded file.

The file will be empty and even though the server has the file with all the details, the file on the client-side is empty.
